Some demographics for Soapnet are available here:
http://www.adage.com/cableguide/2004/32.html
Their audience is 77% women age 18 and older, and 23% men age 18 and
older. The median income of their prime time viewers is $45,000. A
Variety article gave Soapnet's Neilsen ratings as 0.6 in June 2002,
representing 94,000 viewers in the key 18-49 year old female
demographic. That rating slipped to 0.3 in April 2003, representing
60,000 viewers. SoapNet is available in 38.5 million homes in the USA.
Ratings for the soaps for the week of October 25, 2004, available at
http://www.soapcentral.com/soapcentral/ratings.php, indicate that the
Young and the Restless is the most popular with a rating of 4.2. Each
rating point represents 1,067,000 viewers, so Y&R was watched by about
4.5 million people. Tied for #2 were Bold and Beautiful, General
Hospital and All My Children, with ratings of 3.0 each. One Life to
Live had a rating of 2.8, Days of Our Lives with 2.7, and As the World
Turns with 2.6. Bringing up the rear are Guiding Light with 2.3 and
Passions with 1.9. This would give a total viewing audience of 27
million viewers if each soap had a unique viewing audience. However,
many people watch more than one soap opera, so there are probably
fewer that 27 million total viewers.
I hope this helps somewhat! |
