Revenue information
===================
"Exploding in platform release with one of the most spectacular
grosses ever seen for a limited release bow was Ang Lee's cowboy love
story Brokeback Mountain which debuted in only five cinemas but
grossed an estimated $545,000 for a jaw-dropping $108,910 average per
theater. " [Weekend Box Office].

----------------------------------------------------------------
Currently Brokeback Mountain is being shown in 483 theaters in the
United States and will go into wide release with 700 theaters on
January 13, 2006.
"Brokeback Mountain saw limited release in the United States on
December 9, 2005 (in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco), taking
$547,425 in just five theaters in its first weekend.
According to several sources, including TV Guide and indiewire , this
was the highest per-showing average for any drama in film history.
Over the Christmas weekend it posted the highest per theater gross of
any movie and was lauded as a box office success not only in urban
centers such as New York City and Los Angeles, but in suburban
theaters near Portland, Dallas, Denver, and Atlanta.
On January 7, 2006, the movie opened to its widest screening yet,
moving from 269 theaters since January 1 to 483.
In doing so it took in its largest one-day gross to date at $ 1.7
million in the U.S. However, the film's total box office receipts are
relatively low due to the limited number of theaters it is showing on.
As of January 8, 2006 "Brokeback Mountain" has earned a total of $22.4
million in the United States and Canada
Focus Features, the movie's distributor, is planning to release the
film to several hundred or more screens in North America by the end of
January 2006.
According to boxofficemojo.com Brokeback Mountain will go into wide
release with 700 theaters on January 13, 2006."

My good friend and fellow worker pinkfreud-ga has pointed out this material.
(Thanks Pink)
Regarding the per-theater box office take of "Brokeback Mountain," the
most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly (January 13, 2006) gives a
per-site average of $18,020. This was for the holiday weekend of
December 30 - January 2, when the movie was showing on 269 screens.
Entertainment Weekly gets its data from Nielsen EDI.
Excerpt from the Las Vegas Sun:
"Brokeback Mountain," Focus, $4,847,443, 269 locations, $18,020
average, $15,102,697, four weeks."

"..its opening weekend, Brokeback netted over $108,000 per screen at
venues like the West Hollywood-adjacent Grove, when the movie branched
out into the more sexually ambiguous confines of the Arclight (okay,
not so ambiguous) and Sherman Oaks? Galleria, the per-theater revenues
dropped to $34,194."
(...)
"As expected, best perfs came in more liberal cities, including
Toronto, New York and L.A., where the film?s best per play takes
reached over $70,000.
However, ?Brokeback??s best per play takes in other cities included an
estimated $56,000 at a theater in Atlanta, $50,000 in Phoenix, $49,000
in Houston, $35,000 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and $33,000 in St. Louis.
In some of those cities, it was playing on only one screen.
Pic had lower, but still solid takes in suburban markets in
Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California."
