Question ID: 431800
I have a Panasonic TV/VCR combo that has only one place (on the back)
to plug something in, which in my case is the cable connection. The
front of the TV has both video and audio in connections available. I
have an X-wave DVD player and purchased an RF Modulator, as suggested.
Everything works BUT the picture fades - light to dark, then the
reverse. Do I need an S-video connector, and if so, how do I hook it
up?

Hi,

As mentioned in the comments, this is due to Macrovision. The DVD
player and VCR are doing this to prevent you from copying your DVDs to
VHS. If you plug your DVD player to the front of the TV, you shouldn't
have a problem.

Another slight possibility of a solution could be to disable
macrovision on your DVD player, it's possible for certain models, but
not all.

Thanks.

endo - sorry for the delayed response - msn wants to parent me, thus
your response to me ended up in the Junk folder.
As you suggested, I hooked up the DVD player to the front of the TV,
however, this did not solve the fade in/out problem. How would I go
about disabling the Macrovision in the DVD player?

Hi,

To disable macrovision (if it's possible), I need to know the precise
model of your DVD player.

Thanks.

endo:
I have contacted customer service to try to get the model # of the
DVD player. Besides the manufacturers name, the only other item is a
scannable bar code, so I sent that along too. Thanks for your
patience.

hello, endo, and thanks for your patience. I have the distinct feeling
that Lasonic is not going to respond to my request, thus I have
decided to make a gift of the dvd player to some smug
over-achiever...I'm not mean spirited by nature, nor do I like to see
anyone suffer, but after seeing the personnel list of the above named
in a dream, why, it's like a little demon whispering in my ear...

Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions, and I hope you
understand my decision to cancel this question and move on!
Right foot, left foot, until it's second nature!

It sounds to me like Macrovision or some other copy protection is in
effect, but I'll leave it up to a Researcher to provide an answer.

Yep copy right protection. When I first bought my ps2 I was using a
TV/VCR combo to play it on. The games looked great, but when I watch
movie, it was like someone was turning the brightness all the way
down, and then back up. The PS2 played DVD's fine once I hooked it up
to a regular TV.
