I am having trouble opening Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0. It used to
work, but it has been giving me an error message for abour 3 months
now. I have tried to uninstall it and then re-install it, but that
doesn't help. This is what happens: when I click on the Acrobat
Reader 5.0 icon, it starts to load. Then, when it gets to
"initializing weblink.api," I get an error message that says,
"ACRORD32 - This program has performed an illegal operation and will
be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the vendor." When I
click on "Details," it says: ACRORD32 caused an invalid page fault in
module WEBLINK.API at 0167:2e00a160." Can you please tell me how I
can fix this error? I have emailed Adobe, but they have never
responded. Thank you in advance. P.S. My system is Windows 98. If
you need more clarification, let me know, and I will do my best to
provide it. |

Yes- I am using the Citibank Virtual Credit Card. However, this
problem started before I ever downloaded the Citibank Virtual CC
software.

Hi Trinity,
I was going to post this as an answer but now that Ive read your
clarification, I suppose it wont help. You can try anyhow. Who knows?
There are many users of Acrobat Reader with the same problem where
they get an error message: ACRORD32 caused an invalid page fault in
module WEBLINK.API at 0167:2e00a160 when Acrobat Reader is loading.
I did a search in the user support forum on the Adobe website and
found the solution to that particular problem. There is an issue with
WEBLINK.API when a person has Citibank software installed on their
machine. According to the many posts I read, the best solution would
be to remove the Citibank software and after that, Acrobat Reader will
work.
Here are some of the posts that point in that direction:
For now, you will have to remove the Citibank Software until/if they
issue a fix ... A simple explanation is The Citibank software tries
to talk to every program on the system, when it should not be; and
Acrobat doesn't like what it says, and crashes."
Here is another solution if you dont want to remove the application
entirely:
The CitiBank program you recently installed to prevent people from
stealing your credit card number is also preventing you from using
Acrobat Reader. Fortunately that CitiBank software has an ON/OFF
switch. Turn it OFF until you're ready to actually buy something."
Adobe Website User Forum

You may find it useful to read through the Adobe User Forum. I usually
find solutions to common problems with software applications by
reading through the users forums on their websites. Most of the time,
I find that problems are common between users and a solution is posted
by another experienced user or even from an employee from the company.
To read the Adobe forum: http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/main.html
Choose your product and operating system ( click on win on the adobe
acrobat line), then log in as a guest, press search, then choose the
option search all forum messages (in all forums), write weblink.api in
the space provided and after that press search.

I am sure another researcher will be able to help you further.

I know that my question is locked (and in the process of being
answered), but I did what AI suggested in his comments and it worked!
I'm not sure HOW it worked - but I went to "Find files" and entered
"weblink.api." When the file came up in the window, I clicked on it,
and then my computer asked me what program I wanted to use to open it.
Frankly, I didn't know which one to use, but I figured "go ahead &
hit the Acrobat file"...when I did that, the Acrobat Reader opened
successfully. And now it works! Thanks for the help AI! :)
