I have a server that users log onto to access a survey page according
to the following scenario:
They first log onto to the intranet with their username and password.
On the intranet, they click on the link to the survey site and they
are prompted to enter their usernames and password. Depending on the
browser they use, they may be required to put the Domain name in front
of their username (Domain\Username) or they will get an error message.
How do I set up IE so that the Domain is NEVER required as a prefix?
In other words, I want a user to type just their ?UserName? in the
?UserName? field instead of ?DomaninName\UserName?
At this time, the Domain Name is required for IE 6, Mozilla 1.72,
Safari, and Netscape. It is not required for Mozilla 1.6.
The server is a Windows 2003 Standard server

Setting the default domain for IIS authenication should provide what you need.

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/iis/6/all/proddocs/en-us/sec_auth_setdeflogon.mspx

has details. Just remember to use basic authenication only.

A few points:
No. 1: The instructions you refer me to apply to Windows 2000 server,
not Windows 2003 server ("Anonymous access and authentication control"
in Win2k server is "Authentication and access control" in Windows 2003
server)
No. 2: Before I sent this request to you, I have played a lot with the
IIS configuration. The article you refer me to does not make any
mention of "Realm" in the window where you can set up the "Default
Domain". Again, starting back in early October, I have been playing
with this window, making any possible combination of "Deafult Domain"
and "Realm". If I put my domain name in both the "Doamin" and the
"Realm" field, it does not give me the result I am looking for.
Putting my domain name in the Domain field and the server name in the
Realm field did not do it either. No combination of "domain name" and
"server name" in the window wher I SHOULD be able to set the default
domain name, therefore preventing the domain name prefix from being
required, works. Also, I was not able to find an article that would
tell me how to fill those two fields ("Domain Name" and "Realm") so
that the domain name prefix is not required.
No. 3: The application I am using allows "anonymous" access at the web
site folder level ONLY. At that level, I cannot allow basic
authentication and therefore cannot set the default domain. One level
below, there is a folder called "ntauth". At the "ntauth" level, I
cannot allow anonymous access (per the vendor of the application) but
I can allow basic authentication (which I did). When I go under Edit,
I get the window I described earlier with a field for the Domain and
anothr for the Realm.
Your anticipated help is greatly appreciated.
