jill118 -

The carol that interests you is a traditional French carol called
"Quelle est Cette Odeur Agréable."

The English versions of the carol are usually given the title that you
cite, although variations on that translated English title include
"What is That Fragrance, "What is This Fragrance" and "Where is That
Goodly Fragrance Flowing," among others.

Here is a link to the complete lyrics to this traditional carol in the
original French:

Note that various English versions of the title are listed (along with
the various translators) at the bottom of the page.

Additional Information:

Here, from the site linked above, is a comprehensive list of Christmas
Carols (listed alphabetically) that includes various translated titles
of the carol (along with the consistently cited French title):

Finally, and interestingly, the melody of "Quelle est Cette Odeur
Agréable" was included in John Gay's "Beggar's Opera," written in
1778, which is "a comic farce, poking accurate fun at the prevailing
fashion in Italian opera as well as the social and political climate
of the age":

Search Strategy:

I found the basic information (the original title of the French carol)
with the following Google search:

"goodly fragrance flowing" title
://www.google.com/search?num=30&hl=en&lr=&q=%22goodly+fragrance+flowing%
22+title

I then conducted other Google searches to confirm that there is no
inconsistent information about the title online (I found none) and to
gather the supplemental information I provided to you above. Here are
a couple of examples of those searches:

"goodly fragrance flowing" french
://www.google.com/search?num=30&hl=en&lr=&q=%22goodly+fragrance+flowing%22+french

quelle "john gay" "beggars opera"

I am confident that this is the information you are seeking, and I am
happy to have been able to provide it to you promptly. If anything is
unclear, please ask for clarification before rating the answer.
