Hi again iguazu,
Below is the translation for the letter. Note that the author refers
to herself by her name (Mai) instead of the word I (tôi). This might
sound weird to an English speaker, but in Vietnamese it is friendlier
and more personal than "tôi". I've translated all instances of "Mai"
to "I".

I thank your answering [my questions], that's how I can confide in
you, because most Vietnamese are naturally faithful, cherishing, and
respect their friends and always respect your happy family. Here is
my family condition.
I also have never married, but I have adopted a "tran" [might be a
misspelling of "trai", male] child from my sister, because when he was
born, his father(?) [ba = father (Southern), bà = grandmother] died.
Her situation was difficult and she couldn't afford to raise him so
she gave him to me to adopt. He's now finished with college, is
married, with a 4-year-old boy so I am living with them. They earn
their wages, but are not well-to-do yet. That's it in a nutshell, if
you have other questions just ask me and I will answer them later. As
friends, we should learn more about each other's situations so that we
can communicate and confide.
I hope you will be always healthy and good luck come to you in life.
