I'm intersted to know about the history of the coptic church in Egypt;
its origin, weather it ruled in egypt and when. Also an important
thing: was it pacifist all the time or it had its dark periods like
the chatholic church?

don't worry too much about the tiny details. I would like to get
something like a time line and important incidents only.

I have been to that site and i read the link
(http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/10157b.htm). However this is the
Copts side of the story and I'm more interested in the historical
aspect more than the religious aspect of the story. To be specific:

- How true is that church was started by St. Mark. is that just a
claim or historical fact? from what I learned, The Coptic church
didn't remain united since its inception but was split to 2 after the
Chalcedon council 415 A.D.

- Is it true that whole Egypt converted to Christianity or just parts
of it, mainly Alexandria and Fayoum? Any archaeological or literary
works to support this claim? and what was the reaction of the native
Egyptians?

- Did the process of conversion involve violent actions like
destroying Egyptians temples and attacking non-believers? if so any
details?

- How come the copts use Greeks letters in their writing and not
Egyptian letters and what's the connection between Copts and Greeks?

- Is it true that Copts sided with the Arabs in their conquest of
Egypt because they were in war with Byzantine rule?

I tried to be specific but there is probably much that i don't know
and would like to know.
