How do we know the economic effects of design? Can we measure them?
A few organizations have carried out studies on what effective use of
design leads to with regard to stock market performance, revenues or
ROI. I mention examples from U.K., Denmark and Sweden below. (I was
responsible for the Swedish study.)
I am looking for more studies on the same topic. For instance, I guess
there are a few in non-English languages, which are difficult for me
to 'google'. I am especially interested in (A) The methodology for
measuring the effects of design, (B) the conclusions from the studies,
(C) concact information to researchers who have worked with this
issue.
If the studies are in English, a link to the study/studies would be
satisfying. If translations are needed, get back to me and I will
raise the price if the studies seem to be relevant.
EXAMPLES:
The Design Council in U.K. showed that a portfolio with companies
having won design-related awards outperformed the FTSE index.

The Danish Design Centre in Denmark suggested that "design pays" since
companies adopting a systematic approach enjoyed higher profits and
export volumes.

The Swedish Industrial Design Foundation co-financed a study which
showed that if design is used effectively, there are positive economic
effects.
