My friend has end-stage liver disease, and is due to be jailed for 6
months. He has to turn himself in to Los Angeles County Jail in 2
days. He was advised that in order to be considered for placement in
the medical/jail facility he must provide proof of disability
(end-stage liver disease) and proof that was treated for end-stage
liver disease. I would think that the fact he receives SS Disabilty
monthly would be proof enough but it isnt. How can we possibly meet
these requirements in 2 days? He was treated at Ceders-Sinai several
years ago. We are willing to pay any fees to expedite this but it
seems an impossible task. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I don't know if this will work but it is a quick suggestion. In
california you are able to obtain your medical records at any hospital
you received care. So you should be able to go directly to Cedar Sinai
and get a copy of your records or even the actual reacords if you need
them.

Your friend will be out of the county in around 1-2 months tops,
especially with medical conditions. You don't need to surrender with
medical documents -- you can drop them off at central or twin towers
after he's in.

Also, the jail system is pretty reliable when it comes to medication:
they have automated pill dispensers which automatically create batches
to be distributed to inmates. Technically, the LA County Jail is the
worlds largest "mental hospital" -- he'll be OK.

Give 'em a call and let 'em know what's going on, from what I've seen,
they're pretty good at dealing with these issues.

He'll probably be out before he even needs any help, that's just how it goes...

Doesn't he have his own personal physician? Any doctor can tell him
how and where to get medical records.

Thank you all for your input. As suggested, we obtained proof of
treatment directly from Cedars. I can't thank you all enough.

With Gratitude;

Teresa
