I am trying to find out about a company my grandmother invested in.
My parents and my grandmother are passed away, and I have several
original stock certificates with the following information, of which
nothing comes up in Google search.
"Federal Mortgage and Bond Company, Ltd."
it also says incorporated under the Laws of the State of California.
The stock was issued 8/7/1930. Can you give me help? Did they go out
of business? Were they bought by another company?

Hello whitney10-ga,

I hope you've seen the comment, below, posted by 4keith-ga. It has
some intriguing information, but I don't want you to get off track.

(By the way, 4keith-ga is not a Google Answers researcher, as his
comment notes...he just likes to post information here, and he
generally does a good job of it, too).

There are many companies that contain the words "Federal", "Mortgage"
and "Bond" in their names -- apparently this used to be quite the
desirable name. California DOES have a listing for "Federal Bond &
Mortgage", but I don't think this is your company.

There is a record for a company by the name of:

FEDERAL MORTGAGE AND BOND COMPANY

and it is maintained by the StockSearchIntl.com service mentioned by 4keith-ga.

Since the company is already in their database, they charge $40 to
make their report available.

The report should detail the history of Federal Mortgage and Bond, and
should tell you whether it is still in business or not.

You can order the report directly from the Stocksearchintl.com, if it
is of interest to you.

If you want any assistance with the www.stocksearchintl.com site, let
me know, and I can post detailed instructions for its use as an answer
to your question.

Best of luck with the certificates...!

The California Secretary of State website shows this company as having
been registered since 1923 and it says that the company is supposedly
active and that its jurisdiction is Virginia but there is no
registered agent. I checked with the Virginia Secretary of State
website and nothing comes up for that company so it has likely gone
out of business or been acquired by another company. I'm not sure if
you ordered a copy of the filing from the California Secretary of
State's website whether it would have enough valid information showing
for clues for further research or not.

You should know that there is a website called www.stocksearchintl.com
(STOCK SEARCH INTERNATIONAL) who will do a search to get information
about your company for about a $75.00 fee, but I don't want to get
your hopes up too high. Chances are most likely that the company is
in business no longer, but you can go ahead and be adventurous and see
what you can find out. This company does not show up on any of the
companies from whom you could order business reports, such as
dunandbradstreet.com.

You showed the name as Federal Mortgage and Bond--is that absolutely
correct? The information I found relates to a company named FEDERAL
BOND AND MORTGAGE and I assumed that you just mistakenly mixed up the
words but I wasn't sure if you did.
