Are you breaking any laws if you file a tax return with minimal effort
by saying "I earned about $40,000 this year, but I have no proof" when
you really made, say, $32,000? In other words, if you're willing to
pay a couple extra thousand dollars in income tax to save yourself a
lot of work, is this feasible?

Hi

I'm not a legal bod, but last time we had a question of that form, the
authorities basically said it was as much of a crime to quote high as
it was to quote low.

I would be very careful and seek professional advice before putting in
any other number othar than what you believe is correct.
