Most interested in Schools/Universities that now,

Where are you located? Courses I have located so far require you
attend certain functions for a week or certain periods for intensive
courses which compliment the online learning. Although the travel
would be infrequent it would be beneficial to be located nearer as a
trip from New York to Seattle (as a fictious example), would be more
expensive and time consuming.
Also would you like the focus of your PhD to be educational related?
Thanks,
kind regards lot-ga

Located in Southern California (Los Angeles Area).

Not necessarily education related...philosophy seems interesting.
Certainly a degree that works with my past education and executive
management skills. I'd actually be curious what degrees are completed in
the least amount of time, and dare I say it; don't require writing two books.

Hi Maptheway!

What a fun idea! I love online technology, don't you? Honestly, for
what you're offering to pay, you probably won't get a lot of help, but
I can offer you a great resource for finding the information yourself!
You may be familiar with Peterson's Guides for colleges, financial
aid, etc. They've got an online version of their books which enables
you to search by specific criteria.

Peterson's Distance Learning Search
http://iiswinprd03.petersons.com/distancelearning/code/search.asp
Choose your course of study, degree level and on-campus requirements.

I did a few "test" searches and found that Pepperdine has a PhD in
Educational Technology and a few other areas, unfortunately, it
appears that they require at least 60% face-to-face instruction done
over approximately 5 long weekends in the course of a year.
Pepperdine University (look under Academic Programs for more
information)
http://gsep.pepperdine.edu/

Touro University International (says it is accredited through the
Middle States commission)
http://iiswinprd03.petersons.com/distancelearning/code/idd.asp?sponsor=1&inunId=129535&typeVC=ProgramVC
Located in Los Alamos, CA, has a Doctor of Philosophy in Business
Administration (40 semester credits of course work plus a research
dissertation). The concentration depends on the candidate's specific
research interests. This program is fully online.

If the information you want is not found at Peterson's website, you
may wish to check with your local public library to see if they have
or will get you a copy of Distance Learning Programs 2002 published by
Petersons. You could also order this book from the Peterson's site (or
any other online book retailer).
Distance Learning Programs 2002 ISBN/ISSN: 0-7689-0555-9, $21.56
http://e-catalog.thomsonlearning.com/326/?f=XMLHitList&qf=DCQuery&ht=catalog.xml&q=[field,ISBN:0768905559&xsl=productdescription.xsl&buildframe=y
The description says "Peterson’s Guide to Distance Learning 2002 and
the Distance Learning Channel comprise a fully integrated book and web
product that profiles accredited degree-granting institutions offering
distance learning programs. The book contains profiles on institution
units and programs that offer distance learning, with a CD that
launches to the Web search screen where consumers can find additional
program information and take a brief assessment on whether distance
learning is the right avenue for their personal education goals.

"Benefits:
• Descriptions of degrees and courses offered
• Financial aid availability
• Accreditation
• Useful articles on: the ins and outs of a distance learning
education; consortia—the next big thing in distance learning; choosing
the right program; financing tips specifically for distance learners"

If you want me to search with more specific criteria (like specific
programs of study you have in mind) post another question and I'll be
glad to do so, however, my guess is you'll be best served by doing
this yourself, so that you can examine the variety of options
available to you!

Search strategy: At the Peterson's site, I clicked Graduate programs
and then Distance learning

I realized that I'd forgotten to pursue your request for magazine
articles. I have access to InfoTrac and found this article from
Inter@ctive Week

Online College? It's A Matter Of Degree. (Industry Trend or Event) Tom
Monroy.

Abstract: Over 350 US colleges now offer bachelor's, master's and
doctorate degrees on the Internet. Many of these programs are not
accredited and may be viewed with skepticism by employers. Unlicensed
and unaccredited institutions are not eligible for federal funding,
including student loans and employer reimbursement. Their degrees may
not be accepted by employers or transferrable as credit to another
educational institution. Standards for online education and distance
learning can be viewed at The International Board of Standards for
Training, Performance and Instruction's Web site (www.ibstpi.org). New
government agencies are being established to certify and license
online degree programs.

And this one from PC Magazine:

Back to E-School. (distance learning Web sites)(Internet/Web/Online
Service Information)(Directory) Carol A. Mangis.

Abstract: The Web offers a plethora of education sites that offer
children and adults help in a variety of subjects. MindsEye at Winstar
offers projects for classroom collaboration. Cool Science for Curious
Kids offers interactive science learning for kids up to the third
grade level. Ziff-Davis' ZDU site offers technical training. A monthly
$7.95 or annual $69.95 fee provides access to any class or tutorial in
the catalog. ZDNet's devhead site features Web site development and
management technology. Traditional educational institutions are
joining the distance learning bandwagon. The Concord University School
of Law is the first to offer a Juris Doctorate degree online.

and I can email it to you.

Thank you for a few great web sites. It seems the Pepperdine
Educational Technology program is not a PhD program, but a Doctor of
Education.

Still thinking specifically of PhD Programs...any further input would
be helpful. If none, I'll size this one up before the time limit,
making sure you get paid. Sincerely.

As I said before, without specific majors to search, it is difficult
to find programs.

I found a few programs near you at Fielding Graduate Institute.
They've got PhDs in Clinical Psychology, Human Development, and Human
& Organizational Systems. Their site seems to be in progress, however,
the Clinical Psych program states that it is the only distributed
learning program accredited by the APA.

Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program Overview
http://www.fielding.edu/psy/index.htm

Northcentral University in Prescott, AZ, has doctoral programs offered
in psychology (Ph.D.Psy.), with three specializations; and business
administration (Ph.D.B.A), with ten available specializations. They
have been recommended for "initial candidacy for accreditation with
North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on
Institutions of Higher Learning."

Here's what Peterson's has to say

Northcentral University
http://www.ncu.edu/

Saybrook Graduate School in San Francisco has programs in psychology,
human science, and organizational systems.

Again, I strongly encourage you to look through the list of programs
at Peterson's and use their distance learning search to locate other
programs. You will know what you are best suited to moreso than any
Google Researcher! :) There is an extremely long list (50 beginning
with the letter A alone) of courses of study. Remember to limit by the
Degree level in the bottom left and click "Get your results" and
you'll find what additional programs are available.

Courses of Study examined at Peterson's
"business administration"
"business administration and management"
"business systems analysis and design"
"business management"
"philosophy"
"education administration" (may contain Ed.D. programs)

I hope that with these suggestions, you'll be able to find a program
that meets your needs.

Here's what Peterson's has on the schools you questioned followed by a
link from the specific universities.

Stanford
http://iiswinprd03.petersons.com/distancelearning/code/idd.asp?sponsor=1&inunId=130187&typeVC=ProgramVC

Stanford Center for Professional Development
http://scpd.stanford.edu/scpd/default.htm

UCLA (Peterson's)
http://iiswinprd03.petersons.com/distancelearning/code/programVC.asp?sponsor=1&inunId=138886&typeVC=ProgramVC
They are basically recommending you purchase their book "Peterson's
Guide to Distance Learning Programs" for any information on UCLA.

UCLA Extension (Online Study)
http://www.uclaextension.org/index.cfm?OVERRIDE_DEBUG_MODE=DEBUG&href=%2FonlineStudy%2Findex%2Ecfm&nocache=1

University of Southern California (Peterson's)
Turned up no results for distance learning through USC. The only thing
that came up with this search was "Vanguard University of Southern
California".

USC DEN (Distance Education Network)
http://den.usc.edu/
However, I only found information about Master's programs, no doctoral
programs are listed on the top page.

CIT (Peterson's)
No results for distance learning.

CalTech Graduate Studies
http://www.gradoffice.caltech.edu/default.htm
Does not appear to offer distance learning at this time. You may wish
to contact their Graduate Office gradofc@its.caltech.edu or (626)
395-6346 to see if they have any plans to start such a program.

Again, I wish you luck in your educational pursuits.

Given my limited detail for this request, the answer(S) were well laid
out, and very thoughtful. Thank you for your effort and great
attitude! Wondering if USC or UCLA or California Institute of
Technology CalTech, will soon offer PhD degrees at least partially
online...? There was no mention of these prestegious local
schools...moving slightly north, what about Stanford, their computer
science programs seem to be near the best in the nation...so, you'd
think they would have the developed infrastructure necessary to
implement such a program in nearly any discipline, including
psychology or sociology?

I can refer you to a database of online degree programs that would
give you all the answers. Please contact me and tell me if that's what
you're looking for.

I also suggest that you'll search only for accredited programs.
Unfortunately, every Joe can open an online "university" that takes
your money and prints out a degree.

A while back I did find an "online" database of accredited degree
programs...(don't recall the url). I found that that database included
many "non prestigious" schools such as the 'University of Phoenix'
..etc. Not sure if the one you are about to reveal is the same, but I
am interested in MORE than just online programs hence my bidding range
from (70-100% online programs). And yes, I did list "accredited USA
schools only" as part of the criteria.

I do think the request for magazine articles, or other relevant
commentary on school and program performace is valid, and probably not
within the database you mention. However, if you feel the database is
worth it, send it over via a comment, if it's what I need, I'll tell
you and then you may submit as the answer. This is one suggestion to
make sure you do get paid if it's correct. I realize it's not that
much money, thanks for the effort.
