I would like to find a paid job working for the Labour Party in the (probable) upcoming 2005 British election. I have read the reports that it will likely take place in May, but perhaps even as early as February. I am a recent Ivy League Graduate and just finished working for the Kerry-Edwards effort in the U.S. I am also a dual US-UK citizen if that helps solve any questions regarding work visas. I have been to the Labour Party's website and found this link: http://www.labour.org.uk/currentvacancies but I am curious if there are any other avenues. |

Hmmmmm Well don't admit having worked for Kerry for starters: he lost AND Tony Blair and the other guy are buddies. Hadn't you heard? |

Hi, I currently work for Labour in the regions, and have worked in the Scottish Parliament and for MPs. There have recently been a couple of election jobs advertised that you may have had a chance with, but their deadlines have passed. W4mp.org is certainly a good idea, but if you can get someone who is a member of the Labour Staff Network to send you the weekly jobs bulletin, you will get more insider jobs news, which sometimes do not make it onto w4mp. I will be willing to forward it to you if you email chunderfish_40 [at] hotmail But a word of advice: No matter how impressive your education and experience in the US (and working for KE04 WILL help) it is frankly unlikley you will get anything paid without experience of British politics. Your best bet may be to get a job as researcher to a Labour MP (hard enough in itself)working in westminster, and try to get seconded unofficially to Old Queen Street (Labour HQ)during the campaign. There are many people looking to get involved, and precious few will get paid to do so. |
