Just a free comment and personal opinion. I am sure they do for
renting or selling luxury villas. They look up-market and assure
viewers that that they see everything, i.e., that some negative aspect
has been avoid. Potential renters of villas will be happy to spend
the time playing with a virtual tour.
As for city hotels, people may be less interested in a tour. They
know what hotels look like; a few still photos of the public areas and
rooms will more quickly give them an impression of the hotel. Their
interest and investment are more limited, and they probably won't be
so willing to spend the time touring - and waiting for the tour to be
loaded.
This could be different for a resort hotel, where people will be
staying longer and more interested in touring the whole facility.
All the websites promoting virtual tours will, of course, boast the
advantages, so it is difficult to get an objective opinion on the
matter - whether it is worth the trouble and expense, also to update
the tour when necessary.
Here is one site with BestWestern and Days Inn hotels giving virtual
tours of some of them. Decide yourself if the tours are a gimmick or
if they really are a selling point for the types of hotels.
