My primary hard drive had Windows XP professional installed on it. For
some reason, I can no longer load windows on this hard drive. I have
tried reparing this installation by booting through the Windows XP CD.
Now it will go as far as the loading screen, then briefly flash a
bluescreen error message, then reboot, over and over again.
I have decided to simply format this drive, since I was going to
replace it anyway. But there are a number of files I'd like to
retrieve off it first. So I installed Windows on a new drive, then set
the drive with the broken Windows installation as a secondary drive.
So now I have a fresh install of Windows on my C: drive that works
fine, and have my former OS drive as the D:. I am able to access some
of its contents, but when I try to go into d:/documents and
settings/Riley Starr (my old profile), I get and "access denied" error
message.
I have the administrator password for the old Windows drive. Is there
any way I can access the blocked-off section of it? I have tried
booting up with the Windows CD and using the Recovery Console to copy
files manually with the DOS prompt, but I get the same "access denied"
message when I try to access the files I'm after. |
