Please help end this debate (and subsequent bet) that I am having with
my co-workers. We work in academia and we are debating the correct
order of listing degrees and certifications after your name (since we
are asked to do so by our institution). Now I do now that it is common
practice to just list a terminal degree (Ph.D., JD, MD) after a name
and leave all others out, but what about those of us that do not have
terminal degrees. My question is this:
What order should I list my degrees and certifications after my name
according to accepted etiquette?

My degrees/certifications include:
MHRM (Masters of Human Resources Management (earned in 2003)
MBA (Masters of Business Administration (earned in 2004)
SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources (earned in 2005)
Thanks!!!!!!

I'm not sure that there is a real "etiquette" on this. If you are
talking about how to list these when you use your name in a document,
I would be guided by wanting to use the fewest initials to get across
what you want to get across (what do you want to get across by listing
your degrees...?) At any rate, I think three sets of initials after a
name is too many. My suggestion to you is to list one degree and your
professional certification: MBA, SPHR. You could list your MHRM and
not your MBA, but your MBA is more universally recognized (how many
people have ever asked you what MHRM stands for?)

This indicates that you have an MBA (a generally recognized management
degree) and a specialty certification (the SPHR). I realize that it
leaves off your MHRM, but the SPHR gets across your qualifications in
human resources management.

Just my two cents worth....

Of all degree, I notice MD always come first, for those with multiple
professional degree, usually I see them list in this order "MD, JD,
PhD" I had never saw anyone list PhD or JD in front of MD. Therefore
I guess the order is Professional doctoral, doctoral, master, and
lastly your certification. I would put MBA in front of MHRM because
MBA is one letter shorter. I would say what degree you put depending
on many factors, if you working in HR, then it is ok to list all
three, because all three are related to your work.
