What is the logic or reasoning behind the number placement on a dart board. It seems to be random, but someone must have had a reason to put them there to begin with. And someone else must have decided that it was good enough to be the standard. | |

Hi Hi speedracer1967, Thank you for your question and for accepting my answer. Why this particular numbering scheme & are there other boards? http://www.dartbase.com/Sect1/14.html Why the numbers on a dartboard are arranged the way they are is a question that comes up frequently. That looks like the authoratitve answer, and very interesting. I have often wondered if it could be demonstrated that the numbering was "optimal" in some way: increasing the risk of aiming at high numbers by having adjacent low numbers, and also wondered if it wouldn't be more difficult to have "20" horizontal, since I suspect that the strength of the throw is a finer skill than accuracy at horizontal aiming. |
