Dear surreymann, The first Member of Parliament who spoke in the presence of television cameras in the House of Commons was Ian Gow (born 11 February 1937; died 30 July 1990), Conservative MP for Eastbourne. The day was 21 November 1989, and Ian Gow spoke from 2:36 pm to 2:52 pm. Follow this link to read a short biography of Ian Gow, mentioning the fact that he was the first MP to speak in a televised House of Commons debate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Gow Follow this link to read the full transcript of the debate of 21 November 1989: http://www.parliament.the-stationery-office.co.uk/pa/cm198990/cmhansrd/1989-11-21/Debate-1.html Hope this answers your question!
