Question ID: 433138
I have a program that uses a ATMEGA programmer. The atmega programmer
is connected to my computer through a cat25 cable. and into a parallel
printer port. My computer doesnt have this port so i had to buy a PCI
card that had that port on it. After installing it did not work! i
checked and rechecked drivers and restarted. i did a little researched
and realized that program only uses the addresses, 0x3BC, 0x278,
0x378. It is a possibility that those addresses are already occupied
on my computer. My question is how to find out and change one of those
3 addresses to the one which my pci parallel card is, so i may use it
with my program. I am running windows xp SP1, i have a 64 bit amd
athlon 3400+ processor

Ok heres an update to my latest futile efforts. I read online that i
needed to change from ACPI HAL power settings to standard PC. i did
this by going into device manager>computer> and changed the driver
from ACPI to standard PC. this still did not work, the "use automatic
settings" check box was still grey and unaviliable for me. After
converting back to ACPI, the problem presists. Any ideas anyone?

Open Control Panel
if using Category View: select Performance and Maintenance, then System
if using Classic View: select System

select the Hardware tab, then Device Manager
expand the Ports (COM & LPT)
right click on the LPT and select properties (or double click LPT)
go to the Resources tab
the start of the IO Range setting should be 03BC, 0278 or 0378

if not, or there is a conflict displayed
if Automatic Settings is ticked, unselect it and try the Setting Based
On pulldown list for one that gives you the right addresses and no
conflicts and see if that fixes your problem

you should note any changes you have made and establish a restore
point with System Restore before altering your system.

Use Automatic Settings may be greyed out but can you change via the
"Setting based on:" pulldown box?

You may need to manually change the I/O port addresses by setting
jumpers on the expansion card, you should check the manual that came
with the card.
