Hi bigjim958,

Assuming I understand your question correctly, the answer is Nebraska.

Nebraska is the only state in the union with only one house in the
legislative branch of its state government. This is called a
"unicameral" legislature.

The Nebraska legislature itself states this: "Nebraska is home to the
only unicameral, nonpartisan legislature in the nation."

Search Strategy

I happened to know that this form of organization was called
"unicameral," so I searched for "unicameral state legislature"
(without the quotation marks).

If I have misunderstood your question, please explain it in a request
for clarification, and I will look for a better answer.

Thanks for the answer. I was able to figure out that Nebraska was the
only unicameral governance model in the US through the process of
elimination. This is what my 10 year old daughter is presenting for
extra credit at school tomorrow:

Nebraska’s Unicameral System

Nebraska's legislature is unique among all state legislatures in
the nation because it has a single law making unit called "the house".
This method of legislature is called the unicameral system. It wasn't
always a unicameral, however. The state had a senate and a house of
representatives for 68 years before Nebraskans voted to get rid of
half of their state legislature in 1934.

All other states use a bicameral system with a senate and a house of
representatives. The bicameral system was modeled after the British
Parliament, which is made up of the House of Commons, with
representatives elected by the people, and the House of Lords, with
its members appointed by the king.
