I am looking for major online-forums where people meet, that have the
following things in common:

1. They like to travel or they have to, and they spend a lot time away from home.
2. Money should not be the main problem for them, middle-class and above.
3. They mostly have a Family or a friend, waiting at home.

Talk in the forums should be e.g. about problems and solutions on the trip,
staying in contact with home, best bar in town...

I know lots of forums out there myself, and this exactly is the problem,
I need to know the big ones with properties described.

I think this question only can be answered, if the Researcher ALREADY has spend
a lot of time in a lot of travel forums, it can not be researched in a
reasonable amount of time.

So if you have that experience, please help me :-)

ismail2000-ga,

Your question says that you are already aware of quite a few forums.
This actually makes it harder for us to answer your question, since we
have no idea what you're familiar with already, and what would be new
to you.

Can you tell us a few of the main forums you enjoy. Also, an
indication of the typical number of threads in a forum would be
helpful, in terms of gauging size.

For instance, I'm aware of a travel forum that fits your description
that currently lists over 21,000 threads. Would you consider that a
major forum, for your purposes?

Hi,

with "I know lots of forums out there myself" I only meant, that I can
google "Travel Forum"
and get lots of good results. What I am looking for are the forums
with the properties described,
I don't know, maybe there are no such. To answer that question you
have to have read lots of messages.

I am not especially looking for NEW forums, I am looking for the let's
say Top 10 Forums with
the properties described.

I hope this helps,
Thanks!

ismail2000-ga,

I can point you to a number of forums like this one:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=176

But I don't really have a way of knowing if this is a "Top 10" forum
or not, as far as traffic, etc are concerned.

Have a look, and let me know if it seems of interest.

But this is exactly what I need to know, if it is a well known, major forum.
For me a Major Forum is often in the press, has lots of posts and users.

I don't know, if flyertalk.com is big, and I have no way and no time to find out.
That's why I posted this question!

Rick Steves has an excellent travel forum.
