I purchased this painting/print several years ago at a local "vintage"
shop. It's backed by some kind of carved plywood. There are no
markings, front or back, that I can discern. The image is probably
glued onto the wood. I'd guess it's probably from the 70's.

My question is this:

Who created this painting?

It appears to be made by the devil.

There's millions of random paintings out there, good luck. If its
actually well known go to the local universities around your area and
ask a few art professors.

The technique is is called decoupage. Very popular in the 70's. I
had a hippie cousin who was doing this stuff for about a week until
the drugs wore off. I can't believe that this stuff is back in style
such that someone would consider it to have value. I guess you can
never guess these things.

This work is not really decoupage, since it appears to be one image, a
poster no doubt, pasted onto the wood. Decoupage is many cutouts glued
together into one cohesive image... The artist Satty was famous for
his decoupage, or collages.

Yours is one freaky image, however!

Thanks for the comments, all.

@eliteskillsdotcom - I'm sure the devil has more entertaining things
to do with his time.

@philnj - If it has value then I'd be shocked as well. Looks like it
was mass produced at some point though. Those crazy hippies!

@braitman - Thanks for the info. I loved it the moment I saw it.
"It," because I don't know what else to call it. Not a painting nor a
print, it's just a big piece of wood with a poster glued to it. Oh
well, maybe a wood poster?
