The story about Liverpool appears to be quite popular, but this BBC site makes a good argument for its not being true: http://www.bbc.co.uk/legacies/myths_legends/england/liverpool/user_1_index.shtml This site mentions that Alois Hitler's wife Bridget (Brigid?) and their son were in USA on the speakers circuit prior to her writing her book, suggesting the possibility that in the talks ("My German Relatives"), the story about Adolf's visiting Liverpool developed and resulted in its inclusion in the book. http://www.nsm88.com/articles/hitlersfamily.html |

The story about Hitler coming to Liverpool is absolute rubbish but, of course, someone had to make the absurd claim. There was also a story that Hitler's skeleton had been found washed up on Brighton beach. The journalists in question even produced a photo. They claimed that they knew it was Hitler because a small moustache had been painted on the skull and the skeleton's right arm was raised in familiar fashion. |

mikomoro: as an ex-brightonian I loved that story. However, my favorite is the monastery that has as its main relic the skull of Jesus as a child |

Two small comments: (1) In Mevagissey, a small Cornish village, there is a place called Hitler's Walk. But it has nothing to do with Hitler: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cornwall/4227800.stm (2) And, Mr. Hilter was part of a very funny Monty Python sketch, about the by-elections in North Minehead: http://www.monty-pythons.com/album.asp?path=Episode_12&pic=4 http://www.monty-pythons.com/album.asp?path=Episode_12&pic=3 These are the two appaerances of Hitler in England that I'm aware of. |

Actually, I now recall that Hitler did come to England in May 1941, disguised as Rudolf Hess. Meanwhile, Hess stayed behind in Germany, disguised as Hitler. After the war, both Hitler-Hess and Hess-Hitler were safely spirited away by the Americans and they both lived happily ever after, funded by Hitler's paintings and royalties from Mein Kampf. |

Politicalguru, I knew that you'd soon figure out that Elvis was also involved. Actually, whilst he was in Germany, Elvis switched identities with one of his German fans, a certain Oliver Messerschmidt who was also a well-known Elvis impersonator. Elvis in the guise of Oliver eventually found fame (of a sort) by writing Medieval novels in Medieval German which, of course, absolutely nobody understands. Who knows what Oliver is doing today? Meanwhile, Oliver Messerschmidt (the Ersatz Elvis) propelled Elvis to even greater fame on reaching the USA where, naturally enough, he was financed by the Hitler-Hess syndicate. Wheels with wheels. At last, The Truth is out! |
