A few years ago I saw a film on TV where Angela Lansbury starred as a
singer who was
"discovered" singing in  London pubs and went on to international 
stardom. It could have been biographical (Jenny Lind?),but the story
did not match the latter's career. Can you help me to find the name of
the film?

Are you sure that it was Angela Lansbury?

If not, could it be Julie Andrews in 'Star!' (1968)?

Julie played the part of Gertrude Lawrence and in the film she started
out performing in a London pub and went on to international stardom.

Mikomoro is right - it has to be 'Star' I was thinking of,with Julie
Andrews playing the part of Gertrude Lawrence. Sorry to have misled
everybody, amazing what tricks your mind plays when you get to the
senior years!
