Where is politics? Well it's everywhere, it affects everything we do
and everything that happens to us.
The fact that you live in one country and I may live in another is politics.
The way we are educated, our taxes, our lives generally are controlled
by the particular political system under which we happen to have been
born.
For more and more people around the world, democracy is becoming the
new political system, and in that sense, we are all becoming part of
politics, because we have that most precious of things, a vote that
gives everyone a voice.
One vote is only a tiny voice, but it's all we have, and added
together ordinary people's votes are the only thing that can change
the world, and democracy as a way of governing ourselves is a new
thing, not yet full formed.
Even in the UK, where I live, we only gave women the vote about 80
years ago and for most of Europe, and certainly for eastern Europe and
the old Soviet Union as well as Africa and India, in fact for most of
the world, democracy is so new as to still be a novelty, but it's
spreading fast and needs all our support.
So always, always use your vote, never forget that people died for
your right to vote and for the democratic system. If you don't, the
the politicians become our masters, instead of our servants. |
