Question ID: 434511
I have a sony RX 553DS desktop. It's manual says maximum expansion of
RAM is 256 MB - eventhough it has 2 DIMM slots got SDRAM. Anybody
aware if there would be any problem if I put 2x256 MB SDRAMs

skr-7277-ga:

The chipset used in the PCV-R553DS in the Intel 810 chipset.
Technically, as long as you have the latest BIOS update installed in
your PC, you should be able to work with two 256MB PC100 SDRAM DIMMs
to get a total of 512MB.

Before I post an answer, can you tell me if you have the latest BIOS
update installed?

Thanks,

aht-ga

According to Kingston - yes.
unfortunately they do not list the 553, neither does Sony, so it might
not be a US model...

Says it won't work. And I believe them. Kingston is an expert in
memory, and if they say it won't work, in collaboration with your
docs, then it won't work.

I apologize for the false hope given before, but I appreciate the
clarification of the model number.

I apologize about my post being in conflict with the Researcher,
aht-ga. It isn't my intent to provide improper information or to
confuse you, skr_7277-ga. I used a standard reference upon which I
have relied for upgrade paths for many years.

I would welcome the opportunity to be incorrect this time for your answer.
