Hi!

I recently bought a Daewoo 17" LCD, model L710.

I was watching some video and the screen turned black all of a sudden.
The on light remained green. I turned the monitor off. A moment later
I turned it on and I saw a split-second flash of the desktop and then
it went black. I unpulgged the monitor and installed my old yucky 2
ton CRT. I found some info online and thought it may have just
overheated. I waited a while- 2 hours at least and the LCD still does
the same thing.

There is a possibility the store will exchange it or I can use the
warranty. Both of these things are a huge hassle.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks.

I'd like to clarify that i am not looking for a definitive solution.
Links to info or a list of possible problems would be sufficient.

I?m afraid it sounds like your backlight has gone AWOL, or perhaps
video detection. Very often this is caused by poor connections and
since it did flash once -- give it a thump. It?s not unknown for
monitors to fail because of loose screws inside. Subject to a lot of
movement and being hand tightened by gentle girls.

This isn?t a lot of use to you though. If you are *very* good with
tricky bits and pieces you could take it to bits and check out
connectors, cables and solder joints. Waggle the video lead too. The
?no lead, low flux? solder directive is resulting in poor reliability
in some areas. Horrid things, and you sometimes require a degree in
?good grief logic? to work out how to dissemble them. (Not as bad as
laptops). So realistically, guess it?s back to the shop.

Incidentally, my main CRT monitor defies total repair and it gets the
occasional thump too :-)

If its integrated Video, it could have gone bad, when you try to push
high quality video from a poor integrated graphics port it could go
out, my moms did the same thing, I would recomend buying a stand alone
graphics card, or a new computer. If you already do have a stand alone
video card, then it as well may be not able to handle it, most likely
it should if it is a stand alone card. i hope that helps.

If I did not know better I would have thought I wrote this problem. I
have the same make LCD monitor that is about 3.5 years old except that
it is a 15" model. I experienced exactly the same symtom. It behaved
exactly the same way.

I suggest this is a manufacurer's problem. When I tried to call the
mmanufacurer tech support line you would not believe the rabbit trails
I had to chase trying to get my problem resolved. Never did get a
resolution. There answer was to return it to the manufacturer's
subcontractor run repair shop for a paid repair. No thanks! I suggest
looking for another make of monitor. I did.

when dealing with lcd crt's if your baulb is intermitant it is the
voltage inverter most lcd screens pop at the inverter on the first or
second capacitor ways to tell that it is the inverter view lcd at
angle in well lite room and see if there is a what would noramally be
the screen there but real faint. if so it is the invertor or a blown
crt agin if crt flashes its good back to inverter. and troubleshoot
back screen videoard ect. ITS THE INVERTOR BEEN THERE MANY TIMES!!!!

thank you for the time and comments. i was fortunate to have an old
monitor around, so i used that and put-off sending the dae-woo to new
jersey for warranty repairs. i finally sent it in after about 2 months
and it was returned good-as-new 12 days later. they never told me what
it was exactly.

if this happened to anyone else before 30 days is up, take it back to
the store. after 30 days, mail it in (be sure to insure it, just in
case).
