I'm looking for a lightweight, second hand (Ebay, Ubid, etc) laptop
that will run Linux (preferably Debian, Woody or Sarge) well. Looking
in the $200 to $300 price range. I will install linux my self. I will
recompile the kernal if needed. PCMCIA expansion slots, and well
supported hardware is a must. So my question is: What models of
laptops in the approximate $200 - $300 price range work well with
linux?
I will tip well for a great answer, thanks

You may want to take a look at http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/ for a
list of laptops and details of experiences people had with them. Most
of the older IBM Thinkpads are known to work well with Linux. The
website contains a long list of laptops for your to browser/use.
