I want to know if TVs availble in USA will work in India? I am planning on buying a Plasma TV in US & taking it to India. (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-42--Plasma-EDTV--KE-42M1-/sem/rpsm/oid/94935/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do) 1) Should I be concerned about this TV not working in India (NTSC/PAL)? 2) Will the TV's usable life be shortened because of voltage difference? 3) What do I need to look for in a TV to make sure that it will work in India? |

1) Incompatible. Lots of reasons -- first US is NTSC (never the same colour) and India is PAL. Unlikely to be multiple compatible. 2) Indian voltage is 220 volts (putatively). Unlikely that a USA purchased machine would be designed to accept higher voltage. Would blow up. 3) Buy one in India. And my 4) You would be hit by import duties in India unless diplomatic. BTW, importing an American TV wouldn?t let you receive American channels over there. You?d still only get local ones. :-) Not sure about this, but American satellite equipment and TV might work fine -- but you?d still need a voltage converter (transformer). Best |

42" plasma screen: Less than 5" deep, this sleek display offers an impressive picture. Plasma technology offers a realistic picture with a wide viewing angle. The silver cabinet looks great in any room. EDTV monitor: Add a digital receiver to enjoy the smooth clarity of enhanced-definition broadcasts. 16:9 aspect ratio: Widescreen brings you movies in their original format for the ultimate home theater experience. Improved picture: Digital Reality Creation? and Reverse 3:2 Pulldown Technology reduce artifacts for a clean, crisp image. Audio enhancement: TruSurround® SRS® audio processing pushes out crisp, clear audio, so the sound is as sharp as the image. Full range of inputs: Use the full array of A/V inputs?including DVI?to get the most from all of your home theater components. As the fetures say it comes with A/V inputs with those you dont have to worry about NTSC/PAL systems i am sure will be hooking the TV up to either a VCR, DVD or a sattelite Reciever well if you do most of them come with A/V outputs now those are the red, white and yellow hookups AKA RCA cables, so you will get a perfect picture, you can also hook it up to a computer with no problems, and for the voltage, some of them come with a switch or you can just buy an inverter with a high wattage with no problems what so ever and by the way it comes with an s-video input too so that makes it more universal now i think you should buy it here cuz its more expensive there even after u pay airport duties, one more thing HDTV wont work unless you get a HDTV Sattelite reciever but thats the same case here in the states Over all i think its worth it that TV's MSRP is 4,999.99 so you are getting a good deal on it! |

It will work with DVD Players, but not with cable (coaxial input). That transmission is in PAL, and unless the TV can descramble PAL signals, it's not gonna work. As a workaround, you may however try feeding the cable input to your DVD player or amplifier and use the component video out from this to go into your Television. Might perhaps work this way, though it's just a guess on my part. |
