Hi, My wife was an actress in Europe and has quite a few video tapes of her work. They are all Pal videos. She also has a JVC HR-J615EG Video Cassette Recorder that she brought along with her. It is an old machine and so is probably not using the most current connectors. First of all we need to know how we can alter the power cable to work with US power. I know we need some kind of adapter, but do we also need a transformer of some sort? Second, I need to know what kind of cables or adpters are needed to output the audio and video. My goal is to digitize everything and then put it on DVDs. I have a Hollywood Dazzle bridge that accepts s-video or composite video input and then outputs it via firewire to my Mac G4. It is getting from the JVC to the Hollywood Dazzle that is the problem. I have a jpg of the back panel and can also send you a scan of the back connectors from the manual. Is it worth trying to find all this stuff or are we better off finding a low cost modern player that can handle playing a Pal video and outputting it in a way that my video bridge can handle? Thanks for your help! Steven | |

Interesting question. Here in the UK, my DVD and VHS players can play both NTSC and PAL but I understand that they can only record in PAL mode. Maybe in the US, the latest players can similarly play both formats but can only record in NTSC. |
