My computer hard drive is showing that it has a capacity of 4.24 Gb with the result that the hard drive is always nearly full with hardly anything stored in the computer. When bought new the computer had a hard drive capacity of 40 Gb. Recently I changed from XP Home to XP Professional edition. Could I have done something wrong when installing this upgade which has affected the stated hard drive capacity. | |

This is only a guess on my part, but you may have partitioned the hard drive incorrectly. A partition is like a wall that can block off a certain ammount of space on your hard drive. If you reformatted your hard drive, which is often the case when changing OS's, you may have inadvertantly partitioned off 4GB rather than 40GB. The easiest solution for this problem is to put in your Windows install disk into your CD-ROM drive and see if it tells you there's unparitioned space on the drive. If this is the case, just partition the space and format it. That would leave you with 2 seperate logical drives, but you would at least have the space back. If indeed that is your problem. |
