I'd like to start exploring application development for cell phones. 
The market seems like a mess of fragmented standards.  Where are the
best few primers on mobile phone app development?  I'm interested in
(1) platforms, (2) languages, (3) economics (how to distribute your
app, role of carriers & instrument manufacturers, etc.)

Are there excellent, up-to-date books, websites, courses that would
serve as a comprehensive primer?
