I am starting a gardening/landscaping business and am seeking a clever
and catchy business name. My name is Toni and I am located in Silver
Spring, MD, so my clientele will be based in Washington DC, Maryland,
and possibly Virginia too.

At this point i'm not planning on doing lawn care, just gardens. I'm
focusing mostly on maintanance (weeding, pruning, deadheading, spring
and fall cleanup...) but I will also install new gardens and renovate
overgrown ones (although currently i don't do design, i will be
contracting a friend for that).

I'll probably have as a tagline something like "fine gardening
services" or "professional, personal gardening."

I'm thinking that it might be nice for the business name to reflect
the fact that i'm female, since there are so few female landscapers
around here. let me know if there's anything else that might help!
Thanks!

ok, so after having thought about it more, i take back the part about
wanting a name that reflects the fact that i'm female... i think i'd
prefer a gender neutral name. Ideally, the business name would convey
that i create beauty in gardens and/or do fine quality work...

The following data is based on recent market research we conducted
with gardeners in the US:

Target audience:
- Gardening is associated with middle age and subsequent years (think
baby boomers!),
- Gardening is also associated with homeownership,
- Gardening is mainly done by women (vs lawncare which is conducted by men)

Emotional benefits
- Gardening means relaxation and escape.
- Gardening can also mean the opportunity to share time with family
(if they participate)
- Gardening gives a strong sense of pride.
- Gardening makes gardeners feel close to Mother Nature & the environment.

Gardeners do not like the following
- Bugs
- Physical labor and soreness
- Bad / unpredictable weather
- Time away from family (if they do not participate)
- Cleaning and maintenance of tools

Hope that info was helpful.

So let's think about positioning and naming alternatives. Choose the
one that you like the best.
BY OFFERING:
- Garden Maintenance: Benefits for gardeners include less chores,
ability to focus on what they like, ability to work on the garden only
in sunny days, etc. Potential names: Garden Maintenance by Toni,
Toni's Secret Garden, Easy Garden, among others.
- Installation of new gardens: Benefits include get rid of hard /
physical work, have a new beautiful garden you can be proud of, gives
gardeners a new venue to be closer to mother nature and either escape
from family or have a venue to work together. Potential names: My
Garden by Toni, My New Garden, Mother Nature, My Green Escapade, etc.
- Renovation of new gardens: Gives gardeners the ability to regain
control of their garden and start over with their gardens. Potential
names: Garden Awakenings, Sunny Garden, Toni's Miracle Garden, Toni's
Secret Garden, etc.

BY BENEFIT (potential names):
- Green Escapes
- Relaxing Gardens
- My mother's garden
- Gardening Pride
- Mother Nature's wish / Mother nature's garden
- Flower Power
- No more bugs!

BY REGION:
- Mid-Atlantic Garden
- Silver Flowers
- Spring Gardens
- Smithsonian Garden Center
- DC Garden Services,

OTHER TYPICAL GARDENING BUSINESS NAMES:
- Garden Doctor
- Toni's Garden Studio
- Toni's Garden Maintenance Services

OTHER OUT OF THE HAT NAMES

- Blue Flower Gardening
- Sunny Garden Services

Hope this is helpful.

Too British?

My Gardner has a great name for his business - Gardens of Distinction.
Who wouldn't want one of those! It got my attention.
