After downloading several MP3 music files from Kazaa 2.7 or 3.0, I noticed some
will not play; these seem to be recent releases rather than older songs.
I have tried multiple times from what appear to be multiple sources,
with the same results.
PC operating system is Windows XP pro, and when I use Windows Media
player 9 or 10, the file will 'open' the slider at
the bottom of the window will move, but no sound is heard.
On some files, the first verse of the song will play and then just
repeat over and over for the entire length of the file.
I've noticed that the length of the file is extremely long, 15-20
miuntes, as opposed to the 3-4 minute length of the actual song.
Also, some songs will play for a few seconds, then just 'white noise'
will be heard.
Most of the time these files are 32 kbps, but some are 128kbps.
Are these files corrupt and is there some way to fix them?
Should I use a different media player?

Thanks,

Since it is illegal to download copyrighted material, it is against
the terms of service to offer any advice to do so. With that said:

Well. I give this advice only if you currently own the media!
It may not work becuase it was Riped from cd incorrectly. OR, the
RIAA, or record producers FLOOD kazza with BAD FILES, purposely, try
getting the file from a "Single" Source of users. That happends to me
all the time and is most likely what is wrong, I can almost promis it.
Do not download songs if you do not own the cds!

Try downloading some codecs then play the files. Try it here

askarz-ga is right - those are corrupted files put on Kazza on purpose
by RIAA to discourage people from downloading music they don`t own
rights to.

mp3 files should be 1 - 2 meg per minute for a 128 - 192kbps range
which is what you usually would want to download

so most songs will be somewhere just under 3meg through about 6meg

if the file size is too small or too big it is likely to be incorrect
and don't download it

basically watch the filesize, i would choose the sort by file size
option so you can see the large group of files with the correct
looking file size
