Vietnam supplied around 1% of the coffee in the world around 1990 and
today produces around 12-14%.  Almost all of it is the cheaper robusta
type, which is easier to grow than the (also more expensive) arabica
type.
Could you trace a couple of good articles or pieces of research on the
causes of this massive increase in productivity ?

I'd like to look into this for you (...after I go brew myself a nice
big pot of [potentially Vietnamese robusta-ish] joe.  Ah!  I think
I've just found export increase Cause No. 1:  Coffee craving is
similar to the pass-a-yawn-along phenomenon!  You mention it, I gotta
have it!  Alright, I'll stop cracking my C+ grade witticisms and get
to work....

One question first - were you hoping for articles within publications
of particular interest or familiarity to you?
