What was the religion of Daniel Bernard....Mr. Bernard died in 2004.
He was at one time the French Ambassador to the United Kingdom in I
believe the early 2000's. Thank you

Three very comprehensive obituaries which appeared in UK newspapers
did not reveal it, but I have found one news article which states he
was Roman Catholic.

Headline: Diplomatic gaffe puts Tory salon out of joint. 

This article was about an alleged crude remark Daniel Bernard was said
to have made at a buffet party.

"Yves Charpentier, press secretary at the French Embassy, confirmed
that the ambassador to whom Ms Amiel had referred was M Bernard, who
is a Roman Catholic."

answerfinder...thank you......your answer will suffice. I believe but
have no basis for the assumption that he was born Jewish and converted
but I can't find it anyplace. Anyways...I of course accept your
answer. I knew of the remark by Charpentier in regards to that dinner
party at Ms Amiel and husband's residence. thank you

I did include in my search strategy, terms relating to the jewish
religion just in case that was a possibility given the furor following
his remarks, but nothing came up.

answerfinder......thank you....i am sure you did as you are thorough
and answered my question......it is incomprehensible that he made the
remark and admitted making the remark since he must have known that
Ms. Amiel is Jewish and a well-known journalist.
