Looking for either a manufactuer or compounding instructions for TOPICAL British Anti-Lewisite (CAS #59-52-9) also called Dimercaprol. Would also accept a copy of the original patent. The CDC website lists this as an antidote to Lewisite (which may be useful in terrorism protection planning.) Not interested in the injectable version unless instructions to convert to a topical product is documented. |

British-anti-lewisite is not clinically recommended for topic application to persons exposed to lewisite. Here is a quote from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry: http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/MHMI/mmg163.html "British Anti-Lewisite (BAL) can be given by intramuscular injection as an antidote for systemic effects but has no effect on the local lesions of the skin, eyes, or airways. Treatment consists primarily of supportive care." |
