I need info on a Silvertone portable radio. It was sold by sears and
the catalog number is 2203. The chassis number is 528.229. It works on
plug or battery. It's an old tube type radio

I'll echo pinkfreud's comment, especially as to whether you have this
radio or, instead, want one.

Currently, there's a model up for auction -- I could post this
information if you'd like.

But since you have the chassis number, I'm guessing that you already
have this model. In that case, I could post information on a book
that contains descriptions of all Silvertone radios.

But perhaps you'd prefer online information specifically about this
model. I haven't found such information yet -- though I would guess
that it exists, since there are a lot of antique radio web sites.

Do you think that my current information would be sufficient for an
answer? Or would you rather keep the question open?

Since I may not be online again until late today, after the auction
has expired, I'll post a link to the auction now. If it turns out
that this was all you needed, let me know and I'll post information
about the auction as an answer.

the radio is not mint green, it's made of metal and it's a greenish
gray mottled mettallic color with a handle on top wrapped with plastic
(like ratan only that same color). The battery that goes in it must be
rectangular to fit in the space provided for it. The plug for the
battery is round prongs. I can't find a date on it anywhere.
It works fine, has a roll top cover for the dial that is tubular
shaped set into the top edge.
I just needed info on its value and if I could get a battery for it.

Are you wanting to sell one? Buy one? Repair one? Or do you just want
to know the history of this radio?

sharonn2-ga,

You might want to look through an issue of "Antique Radio Classified,"
a national publication for buyers and sellers of old radios and
related items. A free sample issue can be ordered here:

http://www.antiqueradio.com/

Another good source of information is the rec.antiques.radio+phono
newsgroup.

Your local area may have a club for collectors of antique radios. Such
collectors are often very knowledgeable and helpful. There are many
links providing information about such clubs here:
