When Blue Cross or Blue Shield organizations change from non-profit to
profit, mansy states require that they spin off or set up an
organization that provides philanthropic support to the communities,
such as initiating fund development programs that enhance wellness,
medical education and research, and the healthcare delivery
system;facilitate innovations and planning measures that may
meaningfully impact the quality of available healthcare and related
services; offer grants for research. I am interested in these
foundations. (e.g. California Healthcare Foundation at www.chcf.org.
I am NOT INTERESTED in other foundations that have the same mission
and purpose but are sponsored by other organizations -- ONLY those
that were created by Blue Cross or Blue Shield organizations
nationwide. In addition to these foundations
spun off by for-profit BC/BS, there will be non-profit Blue Cross and
Blue Shield organizations that have created similar foundations.
An example of these is the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield
Healthcare Foundation.
I would like a LIST (not just links to these organizations) with the
names of these organizations, their street addresses, website
addresses, phone number, fax number, the name of the President, and
wherever possible, the name of the Director who handles Hospitals or
healthcare coverage PLUS the person in charge
of Grants with their email addresses wherever possible. If the email
addresses of these individuals are not available, then at least the
general email addresses of the organizations.
I am NOT interested in the names and addresses of the actual Blue
Cross or Blue Shield Insurance Carriers although their sites may
provide you with a link to their foundations. e.g. California Blue
Shield (www.mylifepath.com) has a link to the California Blue Shield
Foundation site at www.blueshieldcafoundation.org.

When I mention a LIST of the foundations with certain data points, I
would like to have at least 15 of them, or more. This is not an
exhaustive list.

This was a challenging search that required checking the main website
of almost all the Blue Cross Blue Shield Associations plans listed on
the main association web site.

Community Relations are prominently listed on almost all Blue
Cross/Blue Shield association pages. I found twenty of these
associations had established the type of foundations you?re looking
for. The rest of them make community grants and are involved in
charitable activities but don?t have their own foundations.

I also found that there has been a lot of consolidation of the Blue
Cross/Blue Shield associations and some of these groups of
associations have one foundation to represent that grant giving
activities of all their members. The Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
Foundation is a primary example of this grouping of community grants
for many states.

I found that the quality and comprehensiveness of the web sites for
the foundations varied greatly. Some of them had very little
information while others provided everything you?re looking for. I
collected everything that was available. In many cases I included
information from the parent Blue Cross/Blue Shield company website to
compensate for what was missing on the foundation site. I trust that
you will be able to contact the appropriate officials and individuals
at each foundation.
