Hi theresalouise-ga,

The following two sites answer your question:

Properties of Solids, Liquids and Gases
http://www.learn.co.uk/default.asp?WCI=Unit&WCU=3433

Gases, Liquids and Solids
http://www.chem.purdue.edu/gchelp/liquids/character.html

Although the two sites don't explicitly describe diffusion, it seems
obvious from the descriptions that gases diffuse while solids and
liquids don't.

Google search term used: properties solids liquids gases
://www.google.com/search?hl=es&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q=properties+solids+liquids+gases

Best wishes in your studies,

mvguy

The comments are correct. Liquids do diffuse.

I was slow in retrieving the answer but very pleasantly surprised that
it had already been answered. I asked this question because my nephew
asked me and I didn't have the time to research it myself.

I believe liquids do diffuse. For example, if you put a few drops of
milk in a bucket of water, eventually the whole bucket will get
cloudy. I vaguely remember one of the problems in the computer chip
industry being connected with the migration of atoms on the tiny
scales involved. This seems like it would also be diffusion.

Of corse liquids diffuse. Even solids do, but more slowly.
