What are the top 3 US universities/colleges to study Library and
Information Science, or Library Science, the discipline, rather than a
degree with that exact title?

The best results I could find is this US News graduate school ranking
of colleges with library science programs:
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/lib/brief/lib_brief.php

Unfortunately, the survey data is from 1999 and I don't get the
feeling that US News has conducted more recent research.

Tied for 1st:
University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill

3rd:
Syracuse University (NY)
