Howdy gtomab-ga,
Even though I flew a round about route to Guangzhou, there was never any
problem in connecting to the flights. This should especially be the case
if you are going through larger airports such as Tokyo or Hong Kong.
Signage is (at least) in the native language and in English as well, and
you just need to head to the right airline counter if you have any need
of help.
Be aware that in the Guangzhou, or most other China airport, you will be
given a short "health declaration" to fill and hand in, so have a pen to
do that. Don't be alarmed by an airport attendant pointing a gun like
object at your forehead, as that is simply a device to see if you are
running a temperature.
As for guides in Guangzhou, the people outlined by Freeiva should allow
you to get a good feel for pricing and services that are available.

Here is the specific page on their site for guides in Guangzhou.

You might want to do some research ahead of time in order to find places
that you really want to see, such as those listed on the following sites.
Virtual Tourist.

China-Britain Business Council China Guide.

Silk Road China.

China Highlights.

Also, make sure you get a card from your hotel that has their address and
other information in Chinese. You can show that to most taxi drivers so
they can get you back to your hotel with less problems.
Otherwise, make sure you drink bottled water, watch out for traffic when
crossing streets, be wary of pickpockets and counterfeit money. Some of
the cab drivers will appear to drive recklessly as well.
Have some fun as well! Guangzhou can be a great place to visit.

Howdy gtomab-ga,
Yes, I think the Freeiva site has those undertones, and I apologize that I did
not, as I should have, mention that in my answer.
On examination, I do believe that one can "limit" a search on the site so as
to get specific travel guide services, and those that are qualified to provide
those kinds of services.
For instance, there is Violet Fung.

"I have several experience as acting interpreter in various exhibition and
trade fairs held in Guangzhou, what's more, as I am a traditional Cantonese,
I know the local bars, shopping, sightseeing places ..."
Looks pretty innocuous to me. Note that Guangzhou's "traditional" name is
Canton, so being Cantonese is a plus for a travel guide for the area.
