I need to know if there is any way (any way) to retrieve a file that
contains a report ( I typed) and was corrupted when I downloaded a
photo off the web to insert in the report. The file is typed on user
protected software so I can't open it in word . Anyone that can
retrieve this file for me and save me hours of reytpying today (Sunday
Jan 22) gets Bonus bucks

Hello jackarron,

Impossible to tell for sure without seeing the file - at least in my
case. But there are ways that have possibilities.

Are the contents sensitive or could you upload it somewhere where I
could download and take a look? If so, I would be happy to comment on
my findings and post a retrieved file online if I get lucky with it.
If the contents are sensitive and private, I understand.

I'm available until the football games start today, so if you can
upload, post a clarification and I will be notified to come back and
see your reply.

Best,

At this site:

http://www.yousendit.com/

skip step 1, and go right to step 2. Browse your own computer for the
file, and then click "send it".

If the upload works, the site will return a URL that you can copy and
post here (it will remain a viable link for about a week, before
expiring).

We will then be able to download your file, to see if we can help you.
BUT PLEASE NOTE: this is a public forum, and anyone viewing this
question can also download your file.

Best of luck,

I tried to upload the file and send it . The server shut down and I
got an error message .

If I did a system restore to a time before the file was corrupted do
you think I could open the file ?

Too bad about the upload not working. You can certainly try to
Restore, and see if that works...I can't see that there's much to lose
with that option.

Another approach would be to use a file viewer to at least access the
ASCII text of the file, which you could then copy and paste back into
a word processor for formatting.

Some email systems have a built-in 'quick view' function which might
show you the file's text.

Or, you can use a program like File View:

http://www.mazecomputer.com/fview.htm

which can be downloaded for a free trial. Once installed, Id be
surprised if it couldn't display the text portions of your file for
you.

Best of luck. Let us know how things turn out.
