I currently live in Chicago, Illinois, and am searching for an
apartment to rent. Unfortunately, I haven't been having the best of
luck due to two previous eviction notices served against me about
three years ago. It was primarily due to my signing joint lease
agreements with irresponible college roomates that couldn't pay the
rent. I checked my eviction report recently, and yep, both evictions
are there. When I see apartment listings that require credit checks,
I don't even bother applying.
Anyway, my question is this: I need to know how long an eviction
stays on my record, and are there any ways to convince a landlord to
allow me to rent a nice apartment (no low-income housing). Employment
is not a problem. I currently hold a job as a banker.

If I was a landlord in your area, I'd be glad to rent to you if you
prepaid three months rent, plus security. Why not try that?

I'm trying to repair my credit, but I don't know how to remove
evictions. I checked a website for landlords, and it shows both
evictions. How do I remove them? I can't find any websites that are
of any help.

I manage an apartment community and evictions will be on your credit
record for 7 years. We do accept people that have been evicted if they
have paid the balance owed to the previous landlord. We also ask for
an extra deposit. The deposit amount depends upon other applicant
criteria like rent reference, employment, credit score, etc.

Good luck!
