I'm putting together a small website that will be hosted on a leased,
dedicated server running Red Hat Linux. Being a Linux novice, I'm
looking for someone to help me with the initial configuration but also
show me how it's done (i.e. "teach a man to fish"). I don't need to
be an expert by the end, but I'd like be able to watch and ask
questions along the way.

I've searched for "linux tutor" etc. at Google, but it's been tough to
find companies or names. What I'm looking for is a list of companies
or individuals who would be able to fill this role. They must be
located near me (McLean, VA 22102) so that I can "learn to fish".

Thanks,
Josh

This appears to be a "small enough" job for an individual (experienced
Linux user). one of the resources you can use is the local Linux Users
Group (LUG). You can check
http://www.linux.org/groups/usa/virginia.html and pick an
organization that is close to you. Between the NOVALUG at
http://novalug.tux.org/ and DCLUG at http://novalug.tux.org/ you
should be able to find someone that can set it up for you and tutor
you. Good luck.

Maybe try posting to craigslist: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/
I'd offer to help you myself (since I'm in the area) but am too much
of a novice to be of great assistance. Good luck!

Hi,

Please tell us your level of knowledge with Linux. Are you able to
install the OS? Are you comfortable using the console? Are you able to
navigate around Linux? etc.

The server can be configured remotely but the initial part like the
installation must be done by someone who's got a very good know how in
Linux.

Once this is done, we can guide you step by step once the server is
live on the internet. We'll go thru all the commands one by one until
the server is configured.

You'll also need to install Apache or the like for your web server.

By the way, is your leased dedicated server running any softwares like
Plesk or Cpanel?
