Hi,

I would like to do email marketing to small/medium sized companies in
the construction industry in the US.

I am looking for a list of 10 well reputed companies that rent email
addresses for marketing purposes.

Please include the following information for each company:
Name
Address
Web site url
Sales Contact Person
Phone number
Number of email addresses to companies/individuals in the construction industry
What type of segmentation attributes that are connected with the email addresses
Cost per thousand addresses
Subjective rating by you of the company

Please include www.connectusdirect.com in this list.

Thanks in advance for quick help. Please let me know if you need any
clarifications.

Regards,
Tornell

Hello tornell -

On what basis would you like a subjective rating for these companies?
Other than the cosmetics of their website, I don't know how a rating
would be assignable, since we typically wouldn't have used their
services. Also, do you require an actual sales contact, or would a
general sales number do?

Hi jbf,

Thanks for the quick response. You can skip the subjective rating, but
I would like to have the name, number and email address to a specific
salesperson!

Tornell

OK. Also, some of the top companies are actual email *services* --
they do the emailing for you with their internal, confidential
list(s). Are these OK to include?

Hi, these are ok to include as well. Regards, Thomas

After doing quite a bit of research on this, I'm going to make a recommendation.

There are thousands of services out there claiming to do mailing
lists. The problem is, there's no easy way to determine which ones
are "well reputed" within the budget and purview of this question.

What do you think about my supplying you with a short list of what are
called "list brokers." These are companies that have access to dozens
if not hundreds of list sources. They would source the best lists for
your needs. I have found one in particular that has dozens of
blue-chip companies as clients.

Let me know what you think.

Please hold on that recommendation. Still researching...

Hi again,
my aim is to notify the potential customers via email. To me it does
not matter if it is a broker or not. Another solution would be to
have an organisation in the construction industry send out a message
to their registered users.

Another thought - if you come across any brokers etc for email
addresses to construction companies in the UK, please list them as
well. An adequate tip will be provided...

Hello Thomas -

I've included companies below that are either list managers
themselves, brokers, or both. Let me know if you need any additional
information.

I would make sure whatever list(s) you choose to pursue are in
conformance to any spam laws (i.e., CAN-SPAM)

With regard to the UK request, I'll get back to you by Monday evening
to see if there's anything I can find.

Thanks for a very well structured answer! Just a quick question: how
do I make sure that the lists are complying with the CAN-SPAM rules?

Clarification of Answer by jbf777-ga on 09 Dec 2004 08:35 PST
Hello, Thomas -

You're welcome. It should theoretically be a non-issue, as companies
should be abiding by the law; but just in case, I would simply tell
them you only want to do mailings that comply with federal spam laws.

More on the law can be seen here
http://www.spamlaws.com/federal/108s877.html

From the Summary sublink:
"The Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and
Marketing Act requires unsolicited commercial e-mail messages to be
labeled (though not by a standard method) and to include opt-out
instructions and the sender's physical address. It prohibits the use
of deceptive subject lines and false headers in such messages. The FTC
is authorized (but not required) to establish a "do-not-email"
registry. State laws that require labels on unsolicited commercial
e-mail or prohibit such messages entirely are pre-empted, although
provisions merely addressing falsity and deception would remain in
place. The CAN-SPAM Act takes effect on January 1, 2004."

Thanks,

jbf777

Clarification of Answer by jbf777-ga on 09 Dec 2004 11:54 PST
In actuality, complying with the spam laws is more about what's
contained in the email, rather than anything about the email addresses
themselves. Complying would simply mean that your emails contain what
is required by the law.

Before you purchase your direct emailing list, I would like to help in
the evaluation of these companies. I have direct contacts at 80% of
these organizations and can get 20-30% off the list.

You are playing with the best of the best in these list choices but
your account will be handled as one of many. A good list/email broker
could help you out.
