Hi again iguazu-ga, You're right. Referring to the audience by name is a way to show friendliness. In the letter there are some references to T?t. If you don't already know what it is, it is the largest Vietnamese holiday. This year, it will occur on January 29. You can find some information about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tet ================================Translation begins========================== Dear iguazu, Thank you for wishing me health. In the two phrases that you used to ask about my health, the phrase "B?n kho? không?" [Are you healthy?] is more correct, because Vietnamese vocabulary is rich, the phrase "B?n m?nh gi?i không?" [Are you strong and well?] has many other meanings but maybe you won't be able to understand my explanations. When you visit Vietnam I will guide you and explain it to you, OK? It's only a few days until T?t; I wish you a healthy new year and auspicious things will come to you. Iguazu, why did you sell your house and live your friends? No matter where you go, you should leave the house alone so that one day when you're old and weak you can return to live a comfortable life there. Even if it's in a rural area, it's still your parents' house. It's because I think that you already consider me a friend that I have these thoughts. If you're unhappy please don't get mad at me. Everyone have their own opinions, nobody is alike. I wrote this to know how you're doing. It's almost T?t so I can't send you my pictures yet. Let me travel during T?t and take pictures and then I can send them to you. Sincerely. See you at the next letter. ==================================Translation ends========================= |
