How did French playwright Jean Giraudoux die? I know it was from poison, but would like some details! Who did it? Where? Why? etc. |

I've later read the French wikipedia. They say, as the German one, that it was food poisoning, but they add that some believe that the Gestapo was responsible for the bad food. |

Apparently Giraudoux's wife refused to have an autopsy and inquest, so there may never be a definite answer. Doctors thought Giraudoux's death (Paris, January 1944) was puzzling, and discussed the possibility of poisoning. Louis Aragon published an article in Ce Soir saying the Gestapo had poisoned Giraudoux. He was sure the playwright had been involved in secret Resistance activity. Food poisoning is often given as the reason for his death. (According to some webpages: uremia due to botulism.) At least two biographies discuss this question.
