Question ID: 437329
I have a Paper ID card that has been laminated. It hasn't been done
very wellthough so their is a large ugly boarder of the laminating
plastic one two sides, whilst a normal boarder on the other two sides.
Is it possable just to trim this boarder to make the ID card look
neat- and more importantly fit in my wallet, with out the whole thing
falling appart, or the laminat falling off?
Answer
There is no answer at this time.

I'm not a researcher, and I don't know the answer to your question as
posed, but this might help. At an art supply store you can buy sheets
of plastic lamination in different weights. They're adhesive, and you
can cut the sheet to fit either before or after applying it to your
document. Sounds like you might want to trim your card and apply a
new lamination with an even border all the way around.

No need to worry - trimming is fine as long as you dont cut too close
to the paper (add 1-2mm for shaking hands) , and even in that
situation you can always take of the lamination and laminate it
again...

you can cut around it as long as you dont cut within the un-laminated
area. if there is a border around the card where the laminating hasnt
made contact properly cutting inside this area will separate the
plastic and it will fall apart. a simple answer to this is to go over
the card with an iron (make sure you have something between the iron
and plastic like a sheet of cardboard. hopefully the laminate has been
melted properly into the card and you can cut around it, so it should
be fine.

in a nutshell, make sure the laminate has made contact properly and
only cut where it has,

hope this helps!! good luck

Thanks! I went over the card with an Iron before cutting, and made
sure i didnt cut too close. Now my card has a nice tidy boarder.
